The Fan laboratory mainly studies the plant beneficial bacteria. Our interest covers a wide range of respects of the bacteria including their biocontrol application and the molecular mechanisms that govern their antibiotic production, biofilm formation and interaction with plants. Using the model organism, Bacillus velezensis FZB42, we are also investigating the roles of non-coding RNAs in the spore-forming bacteria. Since 2021 half of our members began to devote themselves to the biocontrol of pine wilt disease, the pine cancer caused by Bursaphelenchus xylophilus.
